Whether you’ve met us as Crufts, have been referred to us by a friend, or have seen our posts on Facebook, we’re sure that you’ve heard just how dog friendly we are here at Saunton Beach Villas! Being located beside a 3.5 mile long year-round dog-friendly beach, it is important to us to ensure that dogs are just as welcome in our Villas as their owners. This means that you and your family can enjoy a dog-friendly holiday beside the beach, at any time of year.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Visit Devon for awarding us SILVER in the Visit Devon Tourism Awards for ‘Dog Friendly Business of the Year”. After 12 months of doom and gloom for business, it’s admirable that the Visit Devon team have pushed on with the awards to recognise the dedication of businesses in our region. We’re thrilled with our win and are sure that all of the businesses involved are grateful for the increased positive exposure that these awards will continue to bring to their businesses.
We are also proud to announce that panel members of the South West Tourism Awards were sufficiently impressed by the evidence that they decided to award us COMMENDED status in the Dog Friendly category!
As dog owners ourselves, we understand what you are looking for in a holiday and have worked incredibly hard to ensure that we provide it. We do not impose a limit on the number of dogs, meaning that families or groups of friends who have multiple dogs can holiday together. We have dog groups, such as agility teams, who stay with us regularly as they can all stay together without worrying about dog limits. We often hear from families who haven’t been on holiday for years because they can’t find anywhere that will accommodate all of their dogs!
Unlike many other dog-friendly establishments, we do not have restrictions on dog breed or size. We don’t believe that it is fair for guests to be discriminated against due to the breed or the size of their dogs. All too often, we are told stories from owners of breeds such as staffies or great danes, who have been refused entry into property due to either the size of the dog or the perceived temperament, this isn’t the case here!
At Saunton Beach Villas, you won’t have to worry that you have too many dogs to stay with us, or that you’ll be turned away due to the breed or size of your dogs; they’re all welcome! We do recommend that if you’re bringing 4 or more dogs, you consider booking a larger Villa so that you all have enough room. For example, if there are 4 humans and 5 dogs, you would probably be more comfortable in a 6 berth than a 4 berth. This isn’t a requirement of booking, we just like to make the suggestion so that you’re all comfortable!
When you arrive, you’ll receive a doggy bag for your dogs, with items such as treats, toys, eco-friendly poo bags, and an exclusive “I Love Saunton Beach Villas” dog tag. In this bag, we also provide a ‘Doggy Guide to the Local Area – Our favourite walks, attractions, pubs and cafes’. Further to this, in the Villas, we also provide a more extensive ‘Guide to the Local Area’ which has more details about local walks and places to visit. North Devon, as a whole, is a fantastic dog-friendly destination and you’ll be spoilt for choice with walks and dog-friendly establishments.
Each Villa has a fully enclosed garden – the fences are around 4ft high and ‘hit and miss’ style. In the garden, you’ll find an outdoor shower, perfect for washing sandy paws and wellies after a long walk on the beach, or for cooling your dogs down on a hot day! Inside each Villa is a medium-size dog crate with waterproof bedding, should you wish to use it (please note, we are only able to provide 1 per Villa due to space, so please bring your own if you’re bringing more than one dog).
For the furniture, we provide a maximum of 2 small blankets to protect the sofas etc – if your 4 legged friend is fond of a cuddle on the sofa, or if you think you’ll need more, please bring your own extra blankets to ensure that the furniture is protected.
The Villas have hard flooring throughout which is sweepable and wipeable – no carpets here!
Both the Villas and Saunton Beach are totally dog friendly all year round, meaning that guests staying with us don’t have to worry about seasonal restrictions. Further to the 3mile stretch of sandy beach, Braunton Burrows sand dune system is right on our doorstep, giving guests miles of walks and some unbeatable views.
Braunton Burrows is the second largest sand dune system in the UK, and is at the heart of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) it is a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve. Braunton Burrows is owned and managed by Christie Estates, you can find more information here.
We bring Saunton Beach Villas to the Crufts marketplace every year, offering visitors who book at the show £100 off their bookings. Those who are not ready to book recieve a discount voucher to use at home. The stand grows in success every year and we now have guests who return to see us every year to take advantage of the show offer. Our relationship with our customers is very important to us, and so taking a trade stand and having the opportunity to meet and chat with our customers (and often their show dogs) is a real highlight for us.
We asked our customers on Facebook what they think makes us different, here are a few comments:
“The fact that you really are dog friendly. Some places say they are dog friendly for only one dog. You do not have a maximum, enclosed garden, dogs are allowed wherever we are too.” – T. Turner
“When you say you’re dog friendly you really mean it. The dog showers are particularly handy. The villas are great, the beach really is a 5 minute stroll away as advertised and dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. What’s not to love?! Also, fab staff” – D. Jefferies
“We have been refused holidays at “dog friendly” places as we have a Rottweiler as can be seen in the post picture. ..We were made so very welcome at Saunton Beach Villas… especially because we have a Rottweiler ♥️ We wouldnt go anywhere else for a beach holiday now 💝” – J. Thorncroft
“Proximity to the beach, you accept dogs as part of the family, not one rule for hoomans and another for hounds and you let the owners relax rather than stress out that the cream carpet will get trashed ( yes, we really have stayed at places which say they are dog friendly and have cream sofas, cream carpet and not hoover left out).” – P. Ball
“Saunton is the first dog friendly holiday we have been on where we we have fully relaxed. The villas are fully set up for dogs and the little touches were wonderful. This is the only dog friendly holiday destination that we recommend” – L. Lowis
