Tarka Trail (Braunton – Meeth)

The Tarka Trail is a cycle route of over 30 miles that runs from Braunton (5 mins from Saunton) to Meeth. You can hire bikes from companies in Braunton, Barnstaple, Bideford Torrington and Ilfracombe. The trail runs the route of North Devon’s old railways, which pass through stunning unspoiled countryside and riverside locations.

The Tarka Trail is named after local author Henry Williamson’s “Tarka the Otter” which is a story set in various locations along the trail.

Tarka Bikes is a hire company located at Barnstaple Railway Station (8.6 miles away), which has a large inexpensive car park so acts as a great starting point for your cycle ride. The Tarka Trail is a fantastic and sustainable way to explore North Devon’s countryside with all the family.
